SCARA robots, which stand for Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm, are generally 4 -axis robots. Constructively they have 3 rotational axes (J1, J2, J4) and one linear axis (J3), realized with ball screw that allow them to move an object in three-dimensional space (X,Y and Z) and rotate it simultaneously (q). The manipulator is controlled by a controller with its own programming language
Main features
- Controlled movements in a wide working area with a minimal floor space occupancy, high speed, precision and repeatability.
- They offer adaptability for high-performance requirements, making them perfect for application that demand a high degree of precision and reliability.
The SCARA robot should be chosen considering its ability to achieve precise and controlled movements in an extremely compact design while maintaining high speed, precision and repeatability. It is, therefore, a suitable robot for applications with a high degree of automation density.
Working area
The workspace’s plan is referred to as a cardioid because it resembles a circular crown often without the part behind the robot which is unreachable due being covered by the robot’s base.
Configurations
SCARA robots are suitable for tabletop, wall and/or ceiling mounting. You can choose a level of protection that makes it suitable for specific environments, such as medical and pharmaceutical settings, highly humid conditions, environments with fine dust or where electrostatic discharge may occur, etc.
Application’s fields
Automatic assembly for medium to small-sized and light-duty applications, including pick&place packaging, sorting, stacking, palletizing, loading/unloading, handling and guided movement.
